Products bearing the Max Havelaar quality label are traded according to the international standards of Fairtrade Labelling Organizations International (FLO). Today, FLO has members in the form of Fairtrade initiatives in 21 countries.
Differing standards apply to farmers and agricultural workers. For more information on the standards, click here.
FLO has two areas of activity:
- FLO e.V. defines international standards of Fairtrade. They cover minimum prices, Fairtrade premiums, regulated working conditions, long-term relationships as well as environmental considerations. FLO e.V. also works with the producers in the South in an advisory capacity.
www.fairtrade.net - The independent certifying organization FLO-CERT GmbH certifies and controls small farming orgnizations and plantations. Inspectors visit the sites at regular intervals and check whether Fairtrade standards are being followed. FLO-CERT is ISO 65 certified.
